The exception, of course, is a job posting that requests all contacts by e-mail. But it's always better to call a prospective employer to make sure there's a job opening for you than to waste your time (and his) with a boilerplated e-mail message that requires his response to move forward. But that immediately explains why an application via email is worthless, its damn impersonal. I took your advise about calling from your previous blog, though I am still searching for a job, it really feels better to call, and I suppose that applies for both sides of the line.
