I had a similar experience in the Wickenburg library. Prior to the time that the Town website posted Town Ordinances, I visited the library, expecting that the ordinances would be available to read... Nope.

If the Wickenburg library receives shared funding from Maricopa county, which is reduced by the number of Wickenburg residents holding county library cards, then it begs the question: Is shared funding based on population count or library card count?

After my quest, my decision was to buy the books I want to read.

Sadly, I have attempted to give enlightened books to the Wickenburg library. They either won't take them or take them for their "book sale" shelf. In fact, that's where I found a perfectly good hard cover copy of "Contact." It was on the book sale shelf, and I bought it for 50¢. When I told the librarian that I'd bring it back when I was done, she told me not to bother; they didn't want it.

Clearly, its philosophical content is in conflict with the goals of whoever constructed the library's reading list: likely a committee of "seniors" who make their decisions at tea parties after church.

The downtown Phoenix library is a jewel, or at least the Arizona room is. I spent hours there researching my book, getting easily distracted by the other great stuff on the shelves.

If you really wanted to get your point across to the Wickenburg library, you could buy the book for them, and make sure they catalog it by demanding to be the first to check it out.
