Chris: I don't think I could have said it better myself. You hit the nail on the head exactly.

It's the dream chasers who are sold a bill of goods by the flight schools who I pity most.

>>What's the flight school's motivation?

This is one pearl that every bright-eyed student pilot needs to know from the beginning. Everybody at that school has a motive: the owner wants to see helicopters flying, and most CFIs want to get out and get a "real" job. Delivering an education is mostly an incidental. As a student, your motive needs to be getting an education--not chasing your dream, which is what the owner is happy to sell you, and not just going flying, which most CFIs are happy to do whether it benefits you or not.

Back to the original question that started this thread, if you're not studying, you're just chasing a dream. Everybody around you will let you keep on doing that because it's in their best interests.

I agree. When I flew the Huey's, I would have novice pilots who had the "I'll learn it tomorrow" attitude. I didn't have time for them, so would tell operations the problem, and they took him off my list and sometimes recycled them to another class, sometime just dropped them out of the program.

Works for me...
