If I may butt in on this conversation...you can always visit the El Tovar lobby, restaurant, etc. on a trip to the GC. Hang out there and enjoy the amenities. But I think the Bright Angel Lodge rim cabins are a better deal and even more historic and quaint. That's my 2¢.

@robert

Hi Robert, I'm sorry to have not responded to your inquiry sooner - I didn't see it till today, so you've probably made a decision already. However, if it's OK for me to still put my "two cents" in, I'd say if you can get reservations at El Tovar, grab 'em! It truly does have a really special "old world" atmosphere (the hotel dates back to 1905) that you don't see very often these days. The architectural features include peeled log beams, 2 fireplaces in the lobby, and a mezzanine where I believe they serve morning coffee. The hotel has a lovely dining room as well. People would give their eye teeth, first born, etc. etc. to stay at the El Tovar - I know, I used to work there! Good luck in your choice and have a wonderful time.

@Alley Kaye

I have a choice to stay at the El Tovar Hotel(Standard 1 Queen)or Bright Angel Lodge (Cabin 1 Queen. Not that price matters $205 vs. $111 but which one would you recommend for the best GC experience?

Alley: My little room at the Bright Angel Lodge was one of the nicest accommodations I've had on this trip. Clean, comfortable, and plenty of light and fresh air to make my time in the room pleasant. I wrote down the room number and hope to get the same room again in the future. I'll be back next month.

Great post as usual, Maria! Those BA Lodge rooms are so much cuter than they were years ago when I worked there. Great sunset shot too!
