Eight years ago this Saturday, my dad passed away, suddenly and without any warning. In all the years have come and gone since then, I still am shocked at how suddenly life's rug can be pulled out from underneath you. My world changed that day. The things that we spend nights worrying about seem so inconsequential when you realize how fragile life really is. I totally agree that you should live life now because one day there will be no tomorrow. Again, my sympathies for your loss. He seemed like a good friend that you will miss.
