There are far too many middle-class people who are driven into bankruptcy (or worse) by huge medical bills for catastrophic illnesses (think cancer or major surgery). I don't think we should all be required to participate -- heck, use whatever doctor you like and pay for it as you normally will. But I really don't think a person's health should have as major an impact on his finances as it does today. Maybe the answer is to simply fix the health care system itself? Make it more efficient and affordable? Who knows? It's a problem that definitely needs to be fixed.
