That quote is new to me. Thanks for sharing it.

The book is about Mac OS X Leopard. I write computer books for a living (still) and am still building my helicopter charter business. This book is my 70th since 1992.

Fortunately, the books are so time sensitive that I don't get a chance to go through all the stages Mr. Churchill listed. It goes right to the master and tyrant stages, neither of which last more than a few weeks.

That would be

"Writing a book is an adventure. To begin with, it is a toy and an amusement; then it becomes a mistress, and then it becomes a master, and then a tyrant. The last phase is that just as you are about to be reconciled to your servitude, you kill the monster, and fling him out to the public."

I hope he was exaggerating - want to write some books myself before long!

BTW, what exactly is your book about?

David, thanks for praise on the panoramic photo. I did take enough photos for a full 360 degrees, but the software couldn't handle it. Oddly enough, the software I used was a freebie that came with my old Canon Powershot. The reason you don't see any seams is because I used a 50mm lens on a tripod and used the markings on the tripod base to evenly space the photos. It was actually pretty easy, but I do wish I'd gotten a full 360 degrees.

Gordon, I don't recall what Winson Churchill said about books, although I'll probably remember if you or someone else reminds me. I'm looking forward to installing Leopard on my new iMac. I think it'll be a solid upgrade for the Mac faithful.

Hi Maria, found your blog recently via Twitter. It must be fun flying helicopters, especially with such nice scenery.

I hope your book project's going OK. Perhaps you know what Winston Churchill said about that!

Of course, there's probably still quite a few Apple folks sweating Leopard details, too. Hopefully it will all be worth it. I've been using Macs since the 128K and things are sure a lot better than they were back in the 90s.

The 360 degree shot is really impressive. You can't see the joins. Well done.

Thanks very much. I'm hoping to catch up on my story this afternoon. Got two hours in a comfy airport FBO with WiFi access.

I'm so much enjoying this series, Maria.

That panorama is nifty and has come out very well.

Those landscapes are so stunning. I hope some of your passengers send some photos you can add to the posts.

Those wind gusts sound like they need your total concentration - and it must be extremely tiring. What a ride!
