I set a reasonable goal for Google Ad revenue.
One of the reasons people blog is to earn money. And most of them do it via Google Adsense revenue.
The whole ad revenue thing amazes me. I’m pretty much immune to Google and other ads on Web sites. I simply don’t click them. Frankly, I don’t even see them half the time. My mind has tuned them out.
And that appears to be true on this Web site. Although it has a few Google Ads (and even a few LinkShare ads, although I’m not sure why), it doesn’t generate a lot of Adsense revenue. I think it’s because of the kind of people who visit the site. Since the site has information of a more technical nature, visitors clearly recognize ads for what they are. And I think they either tune them out like I do or simply don’t click on them.
One of my other sites, wickenburg-az.com, generates about twice as much ad revenue — with half as many hits! — as this site does. Why? Because that site appeals to plain old surfers — people looking for information. The ads probably offer links for more information they want. Some of these people may be real Web novices who don’t recognize an ad when they see it. Others might not care. So they click. And I earn. (But don’t worry; I won’t be giving up my day job anytime soon.)
I’ve had an Adsense account for almost two years now and have seen two checks. But I know why: I simply didn’t include very many ads in prominent places on my site. But that changed a few months ago. Now I earn a tiny bit of money each month — enough to get a check every other month.
My goal: to get a check every month. For those of you who don’t have a Google Adsense account, that means at least $100 per month. Wouldn’t that be nice?
