Arizona Helicopter Pilots Group Looking for New Members

Are you a helicopter pilot with access to a helicopter?

It’s a very informal group with about a half dozen members. A Hughes 500c, three Robinson R44s, and a pair of Bell 47s. Sometimes an R22 thrown in for good measure. We fly to a predetermined off-airport destination, usually for lunch or a picnic. We’ve been to Red Creek, the Wayside Inn, Swansea, the Francisco Grande hotel, and my place at Howard Mesa.

We discuss locations by e-mail. I’m usually the starter, suggesting a destination and then trying to gauge how many of us will attend. Sometimes we meet at a halfway point convenient to a few of us and fly in a loose formation to the destination. Our best attendance was 5 helicopters and a taildragger airplane (at the Wayside Inn near Alamo Lake), but I’m always looking for more.

This season, I’d like to propose a few overnight trips. I’m thinking of Monument Valley, La Posada, Laughlin or Las Vegas, and perhaps an overnight camping trip at Red Creek.

If you’d like to be added to our list, use the Contact link to e-mail me. Be sure to include a little about your flying background and the type of helicopter you’ll be flying. It doesn’t have to be your helicopter; rentals are fine.

Oh, and please don’t use the Contact link for general comments about this post. That’s what the Comments link is for.
