On Cillit Bang…

A new low for marketers, indeed.

This is an excellent example of how marketers are trying to use the comment abilities of blogs to sell their junk. This example is particularly shameful: On Cillit Bang and a new low for marketers… (plasticbag.org)

I got a similar comment on an entry in this blog recently. The person had evidently read the entry — possibly she found it while searching for a topic related to her business. But her comment included links and an invitation to contact her and take advantage of her services. I won’t go into detail on what her services are, but I will say that the entry made it pretty clear that I had no need of her services at all. She was just trying to market—not to me, but to my blog readers. You.

I use spam control software to keep comment spam out. It works very well. But you wouldn’t believe how many times my blog is “attacked” by spammers. Without the software, I’d be spending too much time moderating comments and not enough time getting work done.

Anyway, I invite you to read the above-linked article to get a better idea of how low marketers can go.

Comments? Use the comments link. Just don’t expect to see your comment online if it’s an obvious marketing ploy.

What do you think?

Comments are moderated. I encourage comments that further the discussion, but will not tolerate rudeness or spam. Differences of opinion are welcome, as long as they are presented in the spirit of friendly debate. Your email address is never shared.
