I haven't heard anything about it, but it sure sounds like a good excuse to fly over and check it out. Thanks!

What can you tell me about the Annual Fish Fry at the Wayside Inn? My husband and I have been invited to join some other people who are going, I just wonder what to expect. I understand that the date for the shindig is Oct 2.
thanks

We own and live in a park model trailer at the Wayside Inn park, and we have been residents here for the past 10 years. We are, to some, in a

very remote area and even though, also to some, the Wayside Inn and the residents look tacky. We aren't tacky, we are dusty from a wonderful ride in the desert or just back from fishing in Alamo Lake. We hear coyotes at night, we have a roadrunner that lives in the park, we have cotton tailed rabbits that come and feed in our yards and from time to time we see deer, elk, bob cats, cougar, havelina, and many species of birds. There is a lot of what I call "park pride" in the caring and sharing of our neighbors. On full moon nights us "Waysiders" ride our ATV's ,etc., travel out in the desert, build a fire and have a big weiner roast and watch the moon rise up from behind the mountain. Carl and Cindy were gone for awhile, but are back, and along with CJ and Chris, it is a great, and friendly place to live and also have a meal. We love it here at Wayside and just wish that the visitors would be more diligent about not littering, cutting donuts in our roads, cutting across the desert instead of staying on estblished roads and trails and trashing what is and was part of the history of this area. Wake up visitors, what is destroyed is gone forever!

The Wayside Inn has been a very important part of my life for over 20 years. Our family has been fishing and camping there ever since I can remember. My father retired there in the trailer court in 1998. He passed away in 2002 and we kept the trailer until last year when Carl & Cindy sold it. My uncle lived there awhiletoo, but the heat and isolation were not for him, he moved to Prescott when Dad died.We had many good times there, and we still have family get-togethers at the lake.We hunt, fish, and explore there to this day.. Thanks so much for writing about this special place!

hi my name is Justin young and i would like to comment on the article that you wrote about 5 years ago. i was looking thru the computor about the wayside because interesting as the place sounds its a lot more interesting the more you go. i have been going to that trailer park for at least 10 years now. it is a amazing place to go offroading. oh yeah those trailers are definitly pathetic, what ever it takes to sleep. lol and the lady you were talking about was cindy. that discription explains her perfectly. i like in orange county and my uncle brought me there. the people that run it are his family. i hope you get this message and reply. God bless and hope to hear that you go back sometime

Although I don't comment but a few times in the past, I really miss hearing from you, which is very rare!! And so are you, as a person - very rare. Quite a character, and I always smile reading your essays. You have become a fixture, and I bet you always wanted to be a fixture, right?

At any rate - just wanted you to know that you really count, that you leave footprints in the sands, make ripples.

With a remote but sincere hug -

I found your website on a google search. The houses you mention going up the Santa Maria are my Grandfather's and Fathers on the Grapevine Springs Ranch. We are going there for a family reunion. The cave you mention in the bluff past and above the houses was made from water runoff from the higher desert. I've been in it several times as a teenager and my initials are carved inside. There is a helicopter pad right on the river about a mile past the houses with some hearty springs within walking distance if you are ever out that way.
